Lately I am seeing a ton of ads popping up about Vitamin B12 shots being offered in beauty centers. Why are these shots becoming trendy? And why is it becoming more popular in wellness/beauty centers as opposed to the traditional doctors offices? I started to wonder if it was related to weight-loss or some sort of cosmetic enhancement so I did some research to find out.

Top Health Benefits of Vitamin B12 for men/women:

  • Vitamin B12 is essential for healthy skin, hair, and nails

  • It helps in red cell reproduction and constant renewal of the skin

  • Healthy regulation of the nervous system, reducing depression, stress

  • Helps maintain a healthy digestive system and also protects against heart disease

  • It can increase sperm count

Ah-huh… that first bullet-point may answer some of my questions! Having healthy skin, hair, nails, and cell reproduction are some of reasons why beauty centers are starting to offer Vitamin B12 injections. Another reason may be to increase energy levels.  Shots of Vitamin b12 boost metabolism and with a faster metabolism your body can digest food faster, and aid in weight loss. Would I count on this as a primary weight loss method?  Definitely NOT…  but I used to get these shots years ago when I was doing full-time school/work together and it really helped me have more energy. And with better energy, you can become more active with fitness and exercise so that part can help with weight loss.

Foods that are high in Vitamin B12

The best way to determine if you need these shots is through getting blood tests done, and your doctor will tell you if you are Vitamin B12 deficient. You may also be deficient if your diet avoids food like fish, crab, soymilk, red meat, cheese, and eggs. Being deficient in Vitamin B12 can result in symptoms like fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, depression, anemia, poor memory, soreness of the mouth, asthma, vision problems, and a low sperm count.

Vitamin B12 shots range from $20-$40 a pop depending on where you go. If you are interested in getting these shots or have been prescribed by your doctor it may be better to consider getting it through a beauty center instead of a doctors office because you can avoid visiting a doctor’s office and the fee associated with the visit.  If you don’t know any wellness/beauty centers I would recommend trying  Flawless Laser Center. They’ve recently started offering Vitamin B12 shots and their nurses are always super knowledgeable and professional.
